Andros is larger than all the other Bahamian islands put together and has fewer than eight thousand people on it. Most of the interior is pine forest, mangrove and water, cut through by creeks and pocked with blue holes. Very little of it has been built on.
That emptiness is the point. Andros has the third-largest barrier reef in the world a mile or two offshore, hundreds of blue holes inland and out, and flats that fly fishermen plan years around. We use San Andros (SAQ) in the north and Andros Town (ASD) in the middle, depending on which lodge or creek you are heading for.

What to do in Andros
Bonefishing the flats
Andros is widely considered the best bonefishing in the world, with vast wadeable flats on the west side and a long-established guiding community working out of small lodges.
Blue holes
More than a hundred and seventy documented inland, plus the ocean holes offshore. Some are a short walk from the road and swimmable; others are serious technical dives.
The Andros Barrier Reef
Roughly 190 miles of it running down the east coast, with the wall dropping into the Tongue of the Ocean just beyond. Diving here is uncrowded in a way most Caribbean reefs no longer are.

The batik fabric made at Fresh Creek since 1973, hand-waxed and dyed on the island. The factory near Andros Town is open to visitors.

Which Andros airport should we use?
San Andros (SAQ) serves the north end, Andros Town (ASD) the middle and Fresh Creek. Tell your coordinator which lodge or settlement you are going to and we will pick the field that shortens the drive, because road transfers on Andros are long.
Is Andros good for a non-fishing trip?
Yes, though it is a quiet island. Diving, blue holes, birding and empty beaches, with very little nightlife and few restaurants outside the lodges. People who like Andros tend to like it a lot.
Do we clear customs on Andros?
San Andros is a port of entry and clears arriving private aircraft. Because hours at the smaller Androsian fields vary, your coordinator confirms the clearance airport and timing when quoting the trip.
