Great Exuma is the southern anchor of a chain of cays that runs about 130 miles north toward Nassau. George Town is the only real town on it, wrapped around Elizabeth Harbour, and for a few weeks each spring it fills with cruising boats for the National Family Island Regatta.
We land at Exuma International (GGT), a port of entry about ten miles from George Town. From there the island splits two ways: north up the chain toward Staniel Cay, or south across the bridge to Little Exuma and some of the emptiest beaches in the country.

What to do in Exuma
Stocking Island
Ten minutes across the harbour by boat. Chat 'N' Chill on Volleyball Beach is the gathering point, and the ocean side of the island has a long empty beach and a blue hole to snorkel.
Tropic of Cancer Beach
On Little Exuma, a mile of pale sand in a shallow curve, usually with a handful of people on it. The Tropic of Cancer line runs across the beach, marked on the steps down.
The Exuma Cays north
Compass Cay's nurse sharks, the sandbars that appear at low tide, and the Exuma Cays Land and Sea Park. All reachable by boat charter out of George Town, or we can fly you straight up the chain.
The Regatta
Held in Elizabeth Harbour each April since 1954, racing traditional Bahamian working sloops. The town is at capacity that week, so book early or fly in for the day.

How long is the flight to Exuma?

How far is the airport from George Town?
About ten miles, or twenty minutes by taxi. Most of the resorts and rental villas are between the two, so the transfer is often shorter than that.
Can I do the swimming pigs from George Town?
Yes, boat operators run the full-day trip north to Big Major Cay. If the pigs are the main reason for the trip, it is usually quicker and easier to fly you directly to Staniel Cay instead.
Do we clear customs at Exuma?
Yes, GGT is a Bahamian port of entry with customs and immigration on the field. Processing is $150 one-way or $300 round-trip per flight, and passengers need a valid passport and return ticket.
