Marsh Harbour is the third-largest town in the Bahamas and the practical centre of the Abacos. Almost nobody comes here to stay in Marsh Harbour itself. They come because it is where the ferries, the boat rentals and the groceries are, and because from here the cays are twenty minutes away by water.
We land at Leonard M. Thompson International (MHH), a port of entry with customs and immigration on the field. The ferry dock is a short taxi ride, and from there it is a quick run to Hope Town on Elbow Cay, Man-O-War Cay, or Great Guana.

What to do in Marsh Harbour
Hope Town, Elbow Cay
The candy-striped lighthouse at the harbour entrance is one of the last manually operated kerosene lighthouses anywhere. The settlement below it is all pastel clapboard and golf carts, with no cars allowed.
Great Guana Cay
Seven miles of Atlantic beach and the reef running parallel to it a short swim out. Nippers, on the dune above the beach, is the reason a lot of people come to Abaco at all.
Man-O-War Cay
The Abacos' boatbuilding settlement, still turning out wooden craft and canvas work. Quiet, dry, and worth an afternoon between the busier cays.
Boat rentals
The Abacos are built around the Sea of Abaco, a sheltered stretch of water between the mainland and the cays. Renting a boat for the week is the normal way to do this island group.

How long is the flight to Marsh Harbour?

How do I get from the airport to the cays?
MHH to the Conch Inn ferry dock is about ten minutes by taxi, and ferries run to Hope Town, Man-O-War and Great Guana through the day. Tell your coordinator which cay you are heading for and we will time the arrival against the ferry schedule.
Do we clear customs at Marsh Harbour?
Yes. MHH is a Bahamian port of entry with customs and immigration on the field. The standard Bahamas customs processing fee is $150 one-way or $300 round-trip per flight, and U.S. citizens need a valid passport.
Can you fly a group with boat and dive gear?
That is what the Grand Caravan is for. It takes nine passengers with double cargo doors for bulky bags. Tell your coordinator what you are bringing so we plan the load and, if needed, the aircraft.
